Abstract

In this thesis, the writer attempts to find out lexical cohesion in song lyrics of Michael Jackson Album entitled Dangerous to determine the types of lexical cohesion and the function of lexical cohesion as found in Michael Jackson’s song. The research used a descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research are the words, the phrases and sentences in Song lyrics. The data collected by reading every single words and sentences in the song, and categorized the collected data based on the types of lexical cohesion of Halliday and Hasan. The writer found four types lexical cohesion used reiteration: repetition, synonymy, antonymy and superordinate, hyponymy and collocation. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that there are five types of lexical cohesion in Michael Jackson song’s lyric. The most appears from lexical cohesion found in Michael Jackson Song lyric is repetition. Keyword: cohesion, lexical cohesion, qualitative, song lyric
