Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the third year students’ ability to answer comprehension question in TOEFL text at English Department of Bung Hatta University. The population of this research is the third year students at English Department of Bung Hatta University . The toal sample members were 28 students, and they were chosen by using total sampling technique . The method used in this study was a descriptive method. In collecting data, the reseacher used TOEFL-Like test. Education Testing Service (ETS) has tested the validity, reliability, and accuracy of TOEFL itself. Wainer and Lukhele (1997) found that TOEFL test form code with 1995-3RTF27 and 1995-3RTF07 was 0.96 and 0.95 respectively. It was found that 0 students (0%) had low ability, 2 students (7.1%) had moderate ability , and 26 students (92.9%) had low ability. In conclusion, since the result of this study showed that students’ to answer comprehension questions in TOEFL text is low. The students are suggested to do TOEFL reading comprehension test constantly in order to get better ability. Keywords : Reading TOEFL Comprehension, Answer Questions
