Abstract

This research was aimed at describing the second year students’ difficulties inlistening to Long Conversation of TOEFL-like at English Department of Bung Hatta University. The design of this research was descriptive in nature. The number of population members were 23 students. The researcher took the sample by using total sampling technique. The instrument used to get the data was listening test. This test was categorized as standardized test because the material of test was derived from TOEFL-like Test book. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that the students’ difficulties inlistening to long conversation of TOEFL like was moderate (58,16%). Based on the classification, there were 30,43% of difficulties from 2 questions of main topic. Then, there were 60,86% of total difficulties from 3 questions of purpose. There were 60,05% of total difficulties from 16 questions of details information. Furthermore, there were 78,26%of total of difficulties from 2 questions of conclusion. Based on the finding of this study, a simple conclusion could be drawn that the students had difficulties in listening to long conversation of TOEFL-like. It is suggestedthat the students comprehend about listening materials, especially in listening to longconversation of TOEFL like, and are familiar with the type of questions. Besides the lecturer should find a better strategy to minimize the students’ difficulties in listening tolong conversation of TOEFL like. For further researcher s suggested to do relevant research from different point of view of listening to long conversation of TOEFL like
