Abstract

The purpose study slangs that used by the characters of Ted movie is to make the people undestand about story of movie. However, not all language in the movie using slang. This phenomenon to be cause because the slang is only particular group can understand the meaning of slang words. This brings to the purposes of the research which aims are to analyze the form of slang using theory by Fromkin, Rodman and Hyams (2007), contexts to influence meaning of slang, as proposed by Jones (2012), and also type of slang by Allan and Burridge (2006). The result of the study is that the characters of the movie use slang in some forms such as adjective, noun, and verb. The slang has meaning based on the context of the dialogue which is used by the characters as the speakers. The writer analyzed 50 of slangs which is used by the characters as the speakers in the movie. Based on the type of slang, the slang words which are used in the Ted movie consist of the type of fresh and creative slang, the type of flippant slang, the type of imitative slang, the type of clipping slang, and the type of acronym slang. In this analysis, the writer uses qualitative method. All of the findings and analysis will be discussed in this thesis. Keywords :Form Slang, Meaning Slang, Type Slang, Ted Movie
