Abstract

This research concern in two types of category shift, the Intra – system shift and Structure shift, found in the subtitle of Black Panther movie which has been translated from the source language English to Indonesian and to figure out does the translation, achieve the dynamic equivalence in translation. This research used the qualitative method. The data of the research are collected by watching the movie several times and analyzed using Catford theory of Category shift and in this research also aims the degrees of equivalent meaning in translation based on Nida’s theory. The findings of the study show that the two types of category shift, the Intra – system shift and the Structure shifts occurs in the subtitling text of Black Panther movie. The result of the analysis shows that Structure shift become the most used shift in this translation, rather than Intra-system shift applied in this translation. The use of both category shifts because the grammatical systems from SL and TL are different, so the translator needs to fulfill the requires of the target language.
