Abstract

This is research about translation shift in Chronicles of Narnia, and the aim of this research is to describe the translation shift that occurred in the Chronicles of Narnia movie. And it also aimed degrees of meaning equivalence in process of transferring the data or information. This research is finished to solve two problems, the translation shifts and degrees of meaning equivalence. To finish this research, the researcher used qualitative and quantitative methods. The findings of this research showed that Unit shift in the highest frequency, with 54 cases out of total 153 cases. It is happen because there is a big different between English grammatical and Indonesian grammatical system. The lowest frequency is Class shift, it is only 8 cases. And the findings research that the researcher found caused the degrees of meaning equivalence, it showed that the Complete Meaning is the highest frequency. It is about 60 cases out of total 105 cases. And in the Different Meaning with 17 cases, No-meaning with 14 cases. While Increased Meaning with 12 casess, and Decreased Meaning with 17 cases. Based on the analysis above, it shows that almost all original messages from source language is transferred as equivalent as possible. On the other hand the translator maintains the messages and information from source language into target language. Keyword: translation shift, degrees of meaning equivalent
