Abstract

The aim of this research was to describe the third year students’ ability as interviewee in attending job interview at English Department of Bung Hatta University. The design of this research was descriptive research. The population of this research was the third year students at English Department of Bung Hatta University. The number of population is 22 students. The sample of this research was chosen by using total sampling technique. The data were collected through speaking test. To make the test reliable, the researcher used inter-rater method. It means that there were two scorers to check the students’ speaking performance. The correlation coefficient of two scores was 0.93 (very high correlation). It means that the test was reliable. The result of this research showed that the students’ speaking ability as interviewee in attending job interview at English Department of Bung Hatta University was good. In general, the students’ speaking ability as interviewee in attending job interviewe was classified into good ability. It was found that 54.54% students got good ability. In specific, the students’ speaking ability in making impression was very good. It was proved by finding that 45.45% students had very good ability, and the students’ speaking ability in language usage was good, it was proved by finding that 63.64% students got good ability. Based on the result of this research, it can be concluded that the third year students’ speaking ability as interviewee in attending job interview at English Department of Bung Hatta University was good. Therefore, the lecturers are suggested to give enrichment for students, in order that the students’ speaking ability will be the best, the students are suggested to give more exercises to improve the students’ speaking ability in language usage, especially in using grammar and for the futher reseachers, they are suggested to do research about the students’ ability in attending job interview as a whole aspect of job interview, they are as interviewee and interviewer.
