Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe Grammatical Error Made by the Second Grade Students of MAN Panyabungan in Writing Recount Text. The specific pourpose of this research was to describe errors in term of omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The population of this research was the second grade students of MAN Panyabungan. The number of populations was 109 students. To select the sample, the researcher used cluster random sampling technique and he got the total number of sample was 64 students. The data were collected throught a writing test. The researcher used inter rater technique by using two scorers to know the reliability of the test. The reliability of coefficient correlation of the test be .90. After researcher and second assessor analyzed the data, they found that the total number of students ‘errors in writing recount text were 156 errors. The first error was omission with 70.5 errors ( 45.19 ). In this thesis, omission was divided into 3 types. They were omission of plurality, suffix ed and be. In omission of plurality, the researcher found that there were 10 errors (6.41%). In suffix ed, the researcher found that there were 39 errors (25%). In be , the researcher found 21 errors( 13.78% ). The second was addition; this type was divided into two categories. There were addition of ed and article. In addition, the researcher found that there were 12 errors (7.7). In term of Suffix -ed, the writer did not found error. The third error was misformation. There were two kinds of error in misformation that was analyzed by the researcher. There were misformation of tense and be. The researcher found that there were 70.5 errors (45.19). In term of be, the writer did not find the error. The last was misformation that was divided into two types. There were misformation of adjective and be. In misformation of adjective, the researcher found that there were 3 errors (1.92%). Based on the result of this research, English teachers are suggested to give more exercises and motivation to the students about Recount text. Students are expected to learn more and to do exercises in writing recount text. It is also suggested to the next researcher to find source of errors made by students.
