Abstract

This research aimed to know the step that teacher do to implement the mind map strategy, to know students‟ opinion about mind map strategy and to know students‟ ability in writing descriptive text. The research was conducted at MTsN 1 Matur. There was an English teacher chosen as the participant of the research by implement the strategy. The data were collected from the classroom questionnaire and real test. The finding out of the research was explained descriptively. The result of the research showed that the teacher of English at MTsN 1 Matur has implement most of the mind map strategy in teaching text genre, especially in teaching descriptive text. Students‟ opinion about teacher‟s mind map strategy 75 % positive. The ability of the second year students at MTsN 1 matur to write descriptive text was moderate. 60% students write descriptive text by using mind map considering generic structure. 50% students have moderate ability to write descriptive text considering language features. 65% students have moderate ability to write descriptive text by mind map strategy in considering mechanic. 65% have moderate ability to write descriptive text in considering vocabulary. The imperfect application of the strategy was caused by some problems which come from the teacher and the students. It is suggested to the English teacher to learn more about all the strategy so they can implement them in the teaching and learning process in a maximum way
