Abstract

This research attempted to describe the second year students’ difficulties in comprehending procedure text orally (listening skill) at MTsNKuranji Padang. The design of this research was descriptive. The members of population of this research were 200. The researcher used cluster random sampling technique in taking the sample since the students were distributed into classes and all members of population were homogeneous. The researcher got one class as the sample and it consisted of 30 students. In collecting the data, the research used listening test. Before the researcher gave real test, it was tried out. From the result of the try out, the researcher found that reliability coefficient of the test was .98 It means that the reliability of the test was very high. The result of this research demonstrated that in general the second year students of MTsN Kuranji Padang had difficulties in comprehending procedure text orally (listening skill). They had difficulties in comprehending goal, material, and step. The result of the research showed that 19 students out of 30 students (63.33%) had difficulties in comprehending the goal, 21 students out of 30 students (70%) had difficulties in comprehending the material, and 23 students out of 30 students (76.67%) had difficulties in comprehending the step. Based on the finding of this research, it can be concluded that the second year students at MTsN Kuranji Padang had difficulties in comprehending procedure text orally (listening skill). By having known the students’ difficulties in comprehending procedure text orally (listening skill), the teacher is expected to improve students skills in comprehending procedure text orally (listening skill) by giving more exercises to the students that can minimize students difficulties in comprehending goal, material and step. Besides, the students are suggested to do more exercises about listening procedure text.
