Abstract
ABSTRACT Muchlis.S. 2021. An Analysis of the Twelve Grade Students’ Ability in Doing Tour Guide Role Play at Tourism Department of SMK Negeri 2 Bukittinggi Advisors: 1. Fitrina Harmaini, S. S., M. A. 2. Dra. Lisa Tavriyanti, M. Pd. The purpose of this research was to describe the twelve grade students’ ability in doing tour guide role play at tourism department of SMK Negeri 2 Bukittinggi. Descriptive method was used as the design of this research. The population of this research was the twelve grade students at tourism department of SMK Negeri 2 Bukittinggi who registered in the academic year 2020/2021. The researcher used total sampling technique to select the sample, and the number of sample was 28 students. Instrument for collecting the data in this research was speaking test. To make the test reliable the researcher used inter-rater technique. The result of analysis showed that the test was reliable. It was supported by the fact that the coefficient correlation is 0.69. It was categorized as high correlation. Then the test was valid in terms of content because it had covered all materials that students had learnt. Generally, the students had ability in doing tour guide role play. It was supported by the fact that all of students (100%) had ability in doing tour guide role play. In detail, 19 students (67.86%) were found to have abilities in term of express idea in doing tour guide role play, 26 students (92.86%) were found to have abilities in term of grammar in doing tour guide role play, 28 student (100%) were found to have abilities in term of vocabulary in doing tour guide role play, 28 students (100%) were found to have abilities in term of fluency in doing tour guide role play, 28 students (100%) were found to have abilities in term of pronunciation in doing tour guide role play. By having known that the students had ability in doing tour guide role play, the researcher gave suggestions to teachers, students, and the future researchers. The teachers, they are suggested to give the enrichment to maintain and improve the students ability in doing the tour guide role play. However, the students who have the low score suggested to give more practice to improve their ability in doing the tour guide role play. For the students, they are suggested to keep practice to improve their ability to be a tour guide, and for the future reseacher are suggested to study the students problem in doing tour guide role play.
