Abstract

ABSTRACT Arrido. Ori 2021.An Anaysis of The Second Years Students’ Ability to use adverb of time in writing simple sentences at English Department of Bung Hatta University. Advisors : 1. Drs. Khairul, M.Sc. 2. Dra. Ernati, M.Pd Adverb of time is often used in daily life, whether in spoken or written form. It is also studied in Grammar subject at a university. Therefore, the students need to have the ability to use adverb of time. This research aimed to find out the second year students’ ability to write simple sentences using adverb of time. The population of this research was the second year students at English Department of Bung Hatta University. The number of sample was 36 students taken by total sampling technique. The data were collected by using a completion test in the form of completing sentences using adverb of time. The test consisted of four parts. They were positive, negative, yes no question, and WH question of simple sentence. The results of this research in general showed that the second year students’ ability to use adverb of time in simple sentences was categorized as excellent. Specifically, the second year students’ ability to use adverb of time in simple present tense was categorized excellent; the second year students’ ability to use adverb of time in simple past tense was categorized excellent; the second year students’ ability to use adverb of time in simple future tense was categorized excellent; the second year students’ability to use adverb of time in present perfect tense was categorized excellent. Based on the findings of this research, a simple conclusion could be drawn that the second year students’ ability to use adverb of time in simple present tense, simple past, simple future and present perfect tense was excellent. However, the lecturer should give enrichment to the students, so the students can maintain their capability in completing sentences using adverb of time. The next researchers are suggested to do further research on other tenses
