Abstract
A literary works is designed by the elements that formed it. In order to understand it carefully, we should study the meaning through a structuralism approach. This research aims to identify the intrinsic elements in A Time to Kill by John Grisham. The writer analyzes character's traits, setting, plot and conflicts using structuralism theory. The writer uses a qualitative method by applying close reading techniques to gain a complete understanding of the data. This study reveals that the traits of the character are related to the setting which arises the conflicts and will leads into the plot of the story. The main characters of the novel which has been selected for the analysis also faces the conflicts, such as the external conflict and internal conflicts.
