Abstract

This study aims to analyze and explain the intrinsic elements in the novel The Help by Kathryn Stockett. The novel The Help by Kathryn Stockeit tells about the life of a housemaid in Jakcson, Mississippi. In this novel there are two of their main characters, namely Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan and Aibileen Chart. Where the writer will write down the characters, traits, conflicts and settings in the novel The Help by using structuralism theory. In the novel The Help by Kathryn Stockett, the writer focuses on discussing the conflicts of the main character, especially the characters who have characteristics that will cause the conflict. Therefore, this study also discusses the setting in the novel. This is a qualitative research method that uses close reading techniques to gain a complete understanding of the data. Finally, this research reveals that the characteristics and settings can lead to conflicts that become internal and external conflicts. Keywords: Characters, Traits, Setting, Conflicts
