Abstract

This study aims to analyze the types of category shift and translation equivalent used in Kingsman: The Golden Circle film as well as to analyze what type of category shift and what degree of equality are used the most in this film. Translation is generally known as translating a foreign language into the source language, and in this study the author wants to show that translation is not just translating, but there are steps that must be taken to get a translation that matches the original meaning. The author uses several theories put forward by Catford (1965: 76) which classifies translation into 4 types: (1) structure shift, (2) class shift, (3) unit shift, and (4) intra-system shift. The method used for this research is a qualitative method proposed by Creswell, (1994). The research data were collected from the film Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Based on the results of the analysis, 51 data were divided into 2 parts, first, the results of category shifts in 64 cases which were divided into four types, 26 Structure shifts, 5 Class shifts, 12 Unit shifts, and 21 Intra-system shifts. The most used type is structural shifting. and the second is the degree of equivalence in 60 cases divided into 4 types, 43 Complete meanings, 4 Increased meanings, 4 Decreased meanings, 5 Different meanings, and 4 No meanings, with the Complete meaning getting the most benefit. In conclusion, translation is not only interpreting, but also requires steps to reveal and produce the true meaning of the source language so as not to cause confusion when reading it.
