Abstract

ABSTRACT Rahmalia. 2022.The Third Year Students’ Ability To Write Simple Sentences By Using Verb Collocation At The English Department Of Bung Hatta University. Advisor: Fitrina Harmaini, S.S, M. A. The purpose of this research was to find out the third year students’ ability to write simple sentence by using verb collocation the English Department of Bung Hatta University. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative. The population of this research was the third year students of English Department at Bung Hatta University who registered in the academic year 2020/2021. The total sample in this research were 31 students and they were chosen by using total sampling technique. The instrument used to collect the data was writing test that was sent by Whatsapp. The reliability index of the test was 0,99 which means that very high ability. In general the result of this research showed that the third year students at the English Department of Bung Hatta University had high ability in writing simple sentences by using verb collocation (do, make, have). It was proved that 28(90%) students had low ability in writing simple sentence by using verb collocation. The students’ ability was categorized as very good if their score was between 80 until 100, good if their score between 65 ntil 79, moderate if their score was between 55 until 64, and low if their score was the same or lower than 54.To measure the students’ ability to use “do” in writing simple sentence by using verb collocation, it was indicated by the data that28 (90%) low ability. The students’ ability in writing simple sentence “make” by using verb collocation it was percentage the students’ who have 28 (90%) low ability. Percentage of the students who have 3(,6%) very good, 0 good ability, 0 moderate, and28 students (90%) low ability.
