Abstract
Handayani, Meriza. 2022. An Analysis of the Third Year Students’ Mastery of Transitive Verb in Simple Present Sentence At The English Department of Bung Hatta University. Advisor : Dr. H. Welya Roza, M.Pd. The purpose of this research is to describe the third year students’ mastery of transitive verb in simple present sentence at the English Department of Bung Hatta University. This research was designed by descriptive method. The population of this research was the third year students at The English Department of Bung Hatta University. The total number of population was 30 students. The researcher used total sampling technique to select the sample. To collect the data, the researcher used writing sentence test. The researcher asked the students to write 18 affirmative, 18 negative, and 18 interogative sentences containing transitive verb in simple present tense by considering three components of writing (grammar, vocabulary, mechanics). In analyzing the data, the researcher did the following steps. first, she presented the score of each sample that had been given and converted by first scorer and second scorer. Then she classified the scores into excellent, good, moderate and low ability based on Bung Hatta University Criterion. Based on the result of data analysis, it was concluded that the third year students’ mastery of transitive verb in simple present sentence at the English Department of Bung Hatta University in general was excellent. It was proved by the facts that 93.33 % students’ could write simple present sentence using transitive in affirmative form, 83.33 % negative form, and 96.67 % in interrogative form. Related to the conclusion, the researcher suggests lecturers to increase the level of exercise. Students are suggested to learn about simple present tense and practicing simple present sentence using transitive verb.
