Abstract

In this thesis, the writer analyzes about speech act of directive, that can be found among the characters in Finding Dory and Finding Nemo movies. The researcher uses the qualitative method in analyzing the data. All of the utterances in these movies were analyzed based on the theory stated by Searle (1969) and Brown and Levinson (1987). The results show that the characters of the movie use speech act of directive such as requesting, asking, suggesting, ordering. From the findings, the most dominant speech act of directive in this movie is speech act of requesting. From all forms of the speech act of directive, the speech act of requesting is the highest frequency to be used among others. It is used mostly because the movie tells about a fish father which is asking for his lost son. The character, Dory, requests help for his friends Nemo and Marlin.
