Abstract

The purpose of this research is giving information to the readers especially the students of English Department about types of speech act and functions of using speech act used in the Justin Bieber‟s tweet. In this research, the writer attempts to find out the speech act in the Justin Bieber‟s tweet. The research used a descriptive qualitative method. The data source of this research are the tweet of Justin Bieber. The data collected by downloaded from the internet. The technique of analyzing data in this research is always related to the theory based on the Pragmatics Approach. This research used theories of types of speech actfrom Searle and function from Holmes. From this research, the writer found both of the types of speech act in the Justin Bieber‟s tweet, those are representatives, directives, commisives, expressives, and declaration where representatives, directives, and expressives is dominant in the Justin Bieber‟s tweet. Besides that, there are three functions used in the Justin Bieber‟s tweet that consists of expressive, directive, referential, and phatic, where expressives and directive are most dominant function used in the Justin Bieber‟s tweeet.
