Abstract
In this paper, the writer analyzes kind of metaphor as focus study inHans Christian Andersen’s short stories to start the research as introduction. Furthermore, the write gives some references of metaphor to finish this study in theoretical framework to find the idea in this research and look at the other thesis to compare the similarity or the different in the previous study. The writer also uses qualitative method to classify this research and using some of techniques method to collect the data, they are: reading short story as the first step, identifying the words related to metaphor as the second step, classifying each of metaphors based on Ullman’s theory as the last step. This writer analyzes kind of metaphors such as: Anthropormic metaphor, metaphor from concert to abstract, synesthetic metaphor, and animal metaphorand also tries to describe through explanation of kind of metaphor above. The main purpose of this research is giving reference to the readers about metaphor theory and kind of metaphor as the guiding to the other researchers completely. In addition, the writer hopes this study can be useful after present this thesis. Keywords: metaphor, short stories, kind of metaphor.
