Abstract

This research aims to analyze the directive speech acts in Furious 7 movie. The objectives of this research is to find out the types of directive speech act and the strategies used by the characters in directive speech act found in the movie. This research is qualitative research using descriptive methods. The research data were taken from directive speech acts in conversations between characters in the movie. In conducting the research, the writer did research steps, there are collecting, analyzing, and presenting the data of research findings and finally, drawing conclusions from the results obtained. The result of research indicates fifty data of directive speech act. The writer found four types of directive speech acts in conversation between the characters in this movie. They are requesting, commanding, suggestion, and asking. In this movie, the characters used three strategies. They are without redressive action (Baldly) and with redressive action (Positive Politeness and Negative Politeness). In Furious 7 movie, directive speech act in command was dominant, because this movie is an action movie that tells the story of war between teams that make the characters in this movie often use directive speech acts of commanding. The characters often used without redressive action (Baldly) strategy to realize directive speech acts. The strategy of without redressive action (Baldly) most commonly found in commanding acts.
