Abstract

Emotional expressions can be devided into two types namely (1) Positive emotional state, which is said to be glad, happy, joyful, in love, delighted, pleased, and so on. (2) Negative emotional state, which may also be spoken as angry, upset, hateful, fearful, unhappy and so on (Arthur W 1975:78). Data of the study were taken from a number of Madagascar 3 Europe‟s Most Wanted scripts movie. There are classification of emotional expressions: sadness, anger, love, joy and fear, but in this study the writer only focused on happiness expression. Happiness is feeling good, having fun, having a good time or making good experience (Aristoteles in Adler 2013). In this research, the writer used meaning and context refers to pragmatic theory in linguistic field. The theories used in the analysis are literal expression of happiness such as inspired, optimistic, awe, encouraged, excited, ecstatic, open, peaceful and non literal expression of happiness, repetition, kinds of happiness and context (Karla., 2014; Perrine., 1988; Murray., 2014; Crabtree.,1991). After collecting the data, the writer analyzed the data by using qualitative method. The results show the various words used to express expression of happiness and kinds of happiness expression namely Intellectual, Social, Vocational, Physical. In conclucion, the writer found some the ways used by the characters in the cartoon movie express the happiness, kind of happiness, figurative language especially simile and hyperbole, the use of repetition and the contexts influenced the happiness expression.
