Abstract
This research was aimed to describe the third year students’ Utterance When Performing As A Master of Ceremony (MC) at the English Department of Bung Hatta University. The design of this research was descriptive. The population of this research was the third year students at the English Department of Bung Hatta University. The total sample members were 23 students, they were chosen by using total sampling technique. The data were collected through Speaking Test. To make the test reliable, the researcher used inter-rater method. It means that there were two scorers to check the students’ speaking performance. The correlation coefficient of two scorers was 0,71 ( High Correlation). It means that the test was reliable. The result of data analysis showed the students very good ability when performing as a Master of Ceremony (MC). Generally, 20 students (86,96%) had very high ability, 2 students (8,69%) had good ability, 1 student (4,35%) moderate ability and 0 student (0%) had low ability (see Appendix 8). Specifically, the result of the research showed that students’ speaking ability in pronunciation when performing as a Master of Ceremony which requires them to analyze was very good ability. It was proved by fact that 23 students (95,65%) had very good ability, 1 student (4,35%) good ability. 0 student (0%) had moderate ability, and 0 student (0%) had low ability (see Appendix 11). Students’ speaking ability in vocabulary when performing as a Master of Ceremony was very good ability. It was proved by fact that 23 students (100%) had very good ability (see Appendix 13). The last, Students’ speaking ability in intonation when performing as a Master of Ceremony was very good ability. It was proved by fact that 15 students (65,21%) had very good ability, 5 students (21,74%) had good ability, 2 students (8,70%) moderate ability, and 1 student (4,35%) had low ability (see Appendix 15). Based on the result of this research, it can be concluded that the third year students’ Utterance When Performing As A Master Of Ceremony (MC) at the English Department of Bung Hatta University was very good ability. Related to this, the lecturers are suggested to give more enrichment in speaking especially in intonation. The last, the students are suggested to maintain their ability in speaking, especially in pronunciation and vocabulary. Key Words : Ability, Utterance, Master of Ceremony.
