Abstract
This study aimed to find out the symptoms of psychopathy and the causes of the psychopathy portrayed by Diane Sherman in the movie Run. The writer applied Hare’s theory and used a descriptive qualitative method to this study. The writer found a total of 23 data in this study, including 19 data describing the symptoms of psychopathy and 4 data describing the causes of psychopathy. For the symptoms, there are two categories. The first categories are the emotional interpersonal traits or feelings and relationships. The writer found 16 data which are divided into glib and superficial there are 2 data, 1 data on egocentric and grandiose, 2 data on a lack of remorse or guilt, 3 data on lack of empathy, and 8 data on deceitful and manipulative. The second category is social deviance explains the lifestyle of psychopaths. The writer found 3 data which are divided into 2 data on impulsive and 1 data on poor behaviour controls. There are 2 causes of psychopathy nature and nurture, the writer found only nurture. There are a total of 4 data in nurture characteristics. Poor living conditions have 1 data, physical abuse 2 data, and 1 data on other traumatic incidents. In conclusion Diane is a psychopath, seeks pleasure through deceit and manipulation, to make her daughter stay by her side. Her obsession with her daughter, Chloe, stems from past trauma and physical abuse from her mother. Diane's lack of remorse and guilt makes her feel justified by her actions.
