Abstract
This thesis examines the communication strategies used in Greta Gerwig's acclaimed film "Lady Bird," emphasizing the strategies that support of characters' growth. This thesis aims to discover people's communication strategies and the way of story may convey complicated relationships and personal development. This analysis illustrates the film's various combinations of humor and drama and encourages a deeper understanding of its characters and themes through an analysis of significant scenes and dialogue. The results imply that "Lady Bird" shows adolescence in a significant and relevant way using delicate ways to communicate to show the main character's coming-of-age journey. By providing insights into the various ways that thoughtful communication choices can improve narratives, this thesis adds to the more significant conversation on film studies and communication. This research was found in Lady Bird's film. A total of 65 data have been analyzed and seen by the writer. In this analysis, the writer uses qualitative methods. The results show different types of communication strategies such as (1) 15 Interactional Strategies such as expression of nonunderstanding, responses, guessing, etc (2) 13 Avoidance Strategies such as topic avoidance, message abandonment, and message replacement (3) 15 Achievement or Compensatory Strategies such as circumlocution, approximation, and all-purpose words (4) 10 Stalling or Time-Gaining Strategies and (5) 12 Self-Monitoring or Self-Correction Strategies such as self-rephrasing. The second point writer describes the functions used in communication strategies such as (1) 15 Psycholinguistic Perspective (2) 11 Interactional Perspective, and (3) 24 Maintenance Perspective Keywords: ladybird, types communication strategies, functions communication strategies
