Abstract

This research was aimed at describing the difficulties of the second grade students MAS Ar Risalah Islamic Boarding School in organizing ideas of narrative writing dealing with content: orientation, complication and resolution. The design of this research was descriptive in nature. The total population were 99 students. They were distributed into four classes (Class Exact Science (boys), Exact Science (girls), Middle East (boys) and Middle East (girls). The researcher took 29 students as the sample by using stratified simple random sampling technique of 30% of the number of combination of two classes Class Exact (boys and girls) and Middle East (boys and girls) from four classes as population was chosen as a sample in this research. Students answer sheet of the data of this research were students difficulties in writing test of organizing ideas of narrative writing. The instrument used to collect the data was writing test in the form of the narrative test. The students were given four topics. The result of this research showed that in general second grade students’ difficulties in organizing ideas of narrative writing was low for difficulties (33.1%). There were 6 students (20.6) who had no difficulties in writing orientation. In specific, there were 13 students who had difficulties in writing complication (44.8%) and 16 students who had difficulties in writing resolution (55.1%). Based on findings above, the students are expected to pay improve their competent in writing organizing ideas of narrative writing. As a result, all of them can produced organizing ideas of text. Besides, the researcher also gives suggestion to the English teacher to give enrichment about writing organizing ideas of the text. For the students who had difficulties, it is suggested to students to improve more about organizing ideas of narrative writing. The next researcher is suggested to do research on organizing ideas from different aspect such as the strategy of solving problem of students in writing text.
