Abstract

Soft starter is a starting method that function to reduce the current surge in an induction motor. Thyristor in the soft starter are useful for controlling the flow of current entering the motor, so that the voltage will enter gradually. The current limit value of this soft starter is 400% and the current control is 350%. This study aims to analyze the power efficiency of a 3 phase induction motor with a soft starter that has power 250 kW. The average value of real power the motor when starting is 182,9 kW and after starting 213,5 kW. The current value when starting is 464 A and the current value after starting is 376 A. The peak current value is 1377 A or 318% In. The voltage drop value when the motor starts is 30%. The average load factor value when motor starts is 0,74 and after starts is 0,86. The average motor power efficiency is 85,41%. Key Words : 3 phase induction motor, Soft Starter, Efficiency, Starting Current
