Abstract

When people communicate, they assume without realising it, and the people who are talking to, they corporate to achieve mutual conversational ends. This research is about Grice’s maxims in the interview Prince Harry and Meghan Transcript. The aim of this research is to find out the maxims Grice used in the Interview Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Transcription and to To find out the maxims are violated in the interview Prince Harry and Meghan.. The main theory to analyze the speech acts applied in this research is theory proposed by Grice(1975). Method used in this research is qualitative method. The source of the data is taken from interview Prince Harry and Meghan Transcipt. Based on the result of the analysis, all the Grice maxim used are quantity, quality, relation, and manner. In analyzing cooperative priciple data, context is very important in determining the certainty that the data is correct. The findings of this research is showed that maxim of Quality is the most dominant used in this transcript, with 21 cases from 50 cases and 14 cases was violated in the transcript. This happened because the speakers in the interview give the information about their opinion. In conclusion, the analysis point to the conclusion that cooperative principle is how to communicate with effective to accept each other in certain way.
