Abstract

Labor welfare is closely related to the level of wages received. The decrease in the wage rate results in a decrease in labor income so that welfare will also decrease. Labor wages are obtained from the results of working in certain fields. Many factors affect the level of wages, including the level of education, employment contract, gender, type of work and location of the workplace. This study aims to: (1) determine the effect of the employment contract on the level of wages in West Sumatra. (2) Knowing the effect of the level of education on the level of wages in West Sumatra. (3) Knowing the effect of gender on the level of wages in West Sumatra. (4) Knowing the effect of the type of work on the level of wages in West Sumatra. (5) Knowing the effect of workplace location on the level of wages in West Sumatra. This type of research is descriptive and associative. The data used is secondary cross section data from the data from the National Labor Force Survey (SAKERNAS) conducted by the BPS of West Sumatra Province in 2019. The analytical method used is binary logistic regression. Based on the results of the study, with the Wald Test, it is known that: (1) Employment contracts with an indefinite time work agreement have a positive and significant effect on the level of wages, a certain time work agreement has a positive and significant effect on the wage level, and a verbal agreement has a negative and significant effect on the level wage. (2) Education variable has a positive and significant effect on the level of wages. (3) The sex variable has a positive and significant effect on the level of wages. (4) The type of work has a positive but not significant effect on the level of wages. (5) The location of the workplace has a positive and significant effect on the level of wages.
