Abstract

An Analysis of the Second Year Students’ Grammar Mastery in Writing Passive Voice Sentences after Using Zoom at the English Department of Bung Hatta University Advisor: Dra. Lisa Tavriyanti, M.Pd. The purpose of this research is to describe the second year students’ grammar mastery in writing passive voice sentences after using Zoom at the English Department of Bung Hatta University. Descriptive method was used as the design of this research. The population of this research was the second year students at the English Department of Bung Hatta University who registered in the academic year 2020/2021. The researcher used total sampling technique to select the sample, and the number of sample was 37 students. The instrument for collecting the data in this research was grammar test in the form of writing sentences. To make the test reliable the researcher used inter-rater technique. The result of analysis showed that the test was reliable. It was supported by the fact that the coefficient correlation is 0.99. It was categorized as very high correlation. It means the test was reliable. Then the test was valid in terms of content validity because passive voice was one of the material that studied in second year students’ teaching materials and students had learnt them. Based on the data analysis, it was found that 21 students (56.76%) had very high in writing passive voice after using Zoom. Specifically, 27 students (72.97%)) had very high in writing passive voice sentences with simple present tense. Then 23 students (62.16%) were classified into very high in writing passive voice sentences with simple past tense. Furthermore, there were 18 students (48.65%) had very high in writing passive voice sentences with simple future tense. Besides, 21 students (56.76%) were classified as very high in writing passive voice with present perfect tense. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the second year students had very high grammar mastery in writing passive voice sentences after using Zoom. Based on the conclusion, the lecturers are suggested to motivate students to maintain students’ mastery in writing passive voice. For the students, they are suggested to maintain their grammar mastery in writing passive voice and do more exercises in other forms. And for the future researchers, the researcher suggests to find out the students’ grammar mastery in writing passive voice for more tenses or all of tenses in writing passive voice.
