Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the students’ perception towards the use of Padlet in learning English writing skill at eleventh grade of SMAN 7 Padang. The design of this research was the descriptive research. The population of this research was the eleventh grade of SMAN 7 Padang. Stratified cluster random sampling was used on this research and the numbers of sample were 75 students. Instrument for collecting the data was questionnaire. To find out the reliability index of the questionnaire, the researcher used Alpha-Cronbach by using SPSS 22 for windows. Its reliability index was 0.836 (very high reliable). It means that the questionnaire was reliable. Based on the data analysis, the eleventh grade students of SMAN 7 Padang had positive perception towards the use of Padlet in learning English writing skill. It was proved that there were 6 (8%) of students who had very positive perception, 35 (46.7%) of students who had positive perception, 31 (41.3%) of students who had negative, and 4 (4%) of students who had very negative perception towards the use of Padlet in learning English writing skill. Specifically, there were 10 (13.3%) of students who had very positive perception, 31 (41.3%) of student who had positive perception, 31 (41.3%) of students who had negative perception, and 3 (4%) of students who had very negative internal perception towards the use of Padlet in learning English writing skill. While for the students’ external perception towards the use of Padlet in learning English writing skill, there were 5 (7%) of students who had very positive perception, 36 (48%) of student who had positive perception, 29 (38.7%) of students who had negative perception, and 5 (6.6%) of students who had very negative perception. Referring to the result of this research, the researcher concludes that the eleventh grade students of SMAN 7 Padang had positive perception towards the use of Padlet in learning English writing skill. Relating to the findings, she suggests English teachers to use certain applications like Padlet to enhance the students’ writing skill. The students are suggested to maintain their motivation in writing activities. Last but not least, the future researchers are suggested to study other aspects of using TAM theory which are consists of 5 constructs; perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), attitude towards using technology (ATU), behavioral intention to use (BIUS), and behavior (B).
