Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe the ability of the twelve year students at SMA Katolik Xaverius Padang to comprehend narrative text. The population of this research was the 12th give of Students SMA Katolik Xaverius Padang. The number of population members was 24 students that is way the sample was chosen by using total sampling technique.The data were collected through reading test. In this test, the researcher gave two legend texts to be read and answered the questions of narrative text. The researcher used inter-rater technique to know the reability of the test. The realibility of the test was (0.91); that is why correlation, the test was reliable. The result of the research showed that the ability of twelve year students SMA Katolik Xaverius Padang in to comprehend narrative text was moderate (92%). In specific, their ability to comprehend the orientation of narrative text was moderate (66.6%). Their ability to comprehend complication of narrative text was moderate (92%). Their ability to comprehend the resolution, was moderate (92%). In conclusion, the resultof this study showed that student’s ability answer comprehension questions in narrative text was moderate. Therefore, the students are suggested to do comprehension read narrative text test constantly in order to get better ability more.
