Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the second year students’speaking ability to comment on a motivation video at English Department of Bung Hatta University. The design of this research is descriptive research.The population of this research was the second year studentsat English Department of Bung Hatta University.The total sample members were 24 students.They were chosen by using total sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher used speakingtest.Tomakethetestreliable,theresearcherusedinterratertechnique.It means that there were two scorers. The correlation coefficients of two scores was 0.92. It means that the test was reliable. Theresultofthisresearchshowedthatthestudents’speakingabilityatEn glish Department of Bung Hatta University in general was classified into very good ability. It was proved by the finding that there are71% students had very good ability. The students’ speaking ability in category of content to comment on a motivation videowas very good. It was proved by findingthat96%studentshad very goodability.The students` speaking ability in pronouncingwords to comment on a motivation video was very good. It was proved by the finding that 100% students had very good ability.Thestudents’ speaking abilityin using grammar was low. It was proved by finding that 59% studentshad low ability. Thestudents` speaking ability in using vocabulary was very good.Itwasprovedbyfindingthat100%studentshad very good ability. The students` speaking ability influency wasgood. It was proved by findingthat88%studentshad goodability
