Abstract

This research aims to analyze the types of swear words used in Bad Boys movie and also analyze the mostly type used. Swear words generally well known as a bad word, and in this study the writer wants to show that swear words is not just a bad word it depends on the context and who use swear words and to whom they use it. The writer used some theories stated by Andersson and Trudgill (as cited in Lindahl, 2008: 4) which classifies swear words into four groups: (1) expletive, (2) abusive, (3) humorous, and (4) auxiliary. The method used for this research was qualitative method stated by Mason, (2002). The data of this study is collected from Bad Boys movie. Based on the analysis, the writer got 89 of data and divided into four types, 60 of Expletive, 23 of Abusive, 4 of Humorous, and 2 of Auxiliary. The mostly type used is Expletive. In conclusion it shows that swear words not just a bad word, it also can be used for making a joke, expressing frustration, disappointment or it is just for style of speaking.
