Abstract

The research aims to analyze code switching in Chef Juna in Ala Resep Juna TV Show. Code switching is the alternation between two languages in one discourse, sentence, or constituency. Code switching is categorized according to the level of integration of items from one language into phonological, morphological and syntactic patterns of other languages (Popplack 1980). The researcher used some theories stated by Popplack (1980) and Holmes (2013). The method used was qualitative descriptive method stated by Cresswell (1994). Data of this research were all of phrase, clause and sentences that consist of code switching in terms of the dialogue uttered by the participants in tv show. Based on the data analysis, the result of the research shows that 54 data, from all of the three types are found, 5 data are classified as tag switching, 31 data are inter-sentential switching, and 18 data are categorized as intra-sentential switching. For the result of function of code switching, the most dominant reason underlying the use of code switching was metaphorical switching 25 data, participant, solidarity and status 14 data, switching for affective function 14 data, and 1 data for topic. In conclusion, the use of code switching seems automatically break the rules of English and Indonesian in terms of grammatical errors, the forms of sentences created.
