Abstract

The study aims to analyze the characters in relation to settings in the novel The Selection written by Kiera Cass. In analyzing the characters and setting the writer uses structuralism theory to find the reflected in the study. The result of the study, the writer found the characters their name are America Singer, Ashley Brouillette, Marlee Tames, and Celeste Newsome. Their characters have reflected with setting caste, family, maids, education and member of selected. The technique applies is close reading. The writer focuses on two intrinsic element; character and setting. Each of these elements has relationship that supports the story. Firstly the characters that have big influence to the story that related with the title of the novel The Selection and then their characters have reflected with setting. Setting in here gives big influences to each other. Key words: characters, setting, structuralism, reflected in the novel.
