Abstract

The objective of this research was to know the problem of the eighth grade students‟ of SMP N 4 VII Koto Sungai Sarik in comprehending Announcement. The design of this research was descriptive. The population of this research was the eighth grade students‟ SMP N 4 VII Koto Sungai Sarik. The total number of 12 the population was 39 students. They were distributed into two classes, class VIII.1, VIII.2. The researcher used cluster random sampling to select the sample, and class VIII.1 had been chosen to be the sample of this research. The data were gathered by giving reading test in the form of multiple choice to the students. The researcher limited her research in comprehending heading, content and closing of comprehend announcement. The result of analysis showed that the students had problems in comprehending announcement. It was proved that 52.38% students had problems. In detail, the students had problems in comprehending heading of announcement. It was proved that 47.62% students had problems.The students had problems in comprehending content of announcement. It was proved that 61.90 % students had problems.And the students had problems in comprehending closing in announcement. It was proved that 52.38% students had problems. Based on the result above, the teachers were suggested to give more attention and exercises in comprehending announcement, since announcement is usually forward in daily life. The students were suggested a lot of practice to increase understanding to comprehend announcement. And to the next researcher, it was suggested to study about some factors that cause students‟ problem in comprehending announcement
