Abstract

Lembaga Bantuan Hukum Padang is a non-governmental institution that is actively involved in the advocacy of human rights issues, such as torture, to ensure that access to justice for the community is guaranteed as stipulated in Article 3 of Law Number 16 of 2016. Among the issues being advocated is the alleged case of torture against a 13-year-old child victim, AM. The research questions addressed in this study are: 1. What role is played by LBH Padang in the advocacy of the alleged torture case against a child? 2. What obstacles are encountered by LBH Padang in the advocacy of the alleged torture case against a child? The research is classified as socio-legal research, with data sources comprising primary data gathered through interviews and secondary data obtained from document studies. The data collected were analyzed using qualitative methods. The findings of this research are: 1) The efforts undertaken by LBH Padang in the advocacy of the alleged torture case include independent case investigation, legal counseling, out-of-court assistance, reporting, offline and digital campaigns, as well as collaboration with institutions, media, and other supporting elements. 2) The obstacles faced by LBH Padang during the advocacy process include a lack of key witness testimony, transparency issues with law enforcement officials, and differing public perspectives.
