Abstract

ABSTRACT Fitri, Ayulanda. 2021. An Analysis on The First Year Students’ Conversation Ability in Expressing and Responding to Congratulation at Senior High School 2 Harau Boarding School Lima Kota Regency. Advisors 1: Dra. Ernati, M.Pd. 2: Drs. Khairul, M.Sc. The purpose of this research is to analyze the first-year students’ conversation ability in expressing and responding to congratulation at Senior High School 2 Harau Boarding School Lima Kota Regency. The population of this research is first-year students who registered in the academic year 2020/2021. The members of the sample are 42 students, and they are chosen by using the stratified cluster random sampling technique. The data are collected through a conversation test. To make the test reliable, the researcher uses the inter- rater technique. The researcher finds that the correlation coefficient of the two sets of score is 0.65. It means the test has a high correlation and it’s reliable. The result of this research showed that the students’ conversation ability at Senior High School 2 Harau Boarding School Lima Kota Regency in expressing and responding to congratulation, in general, is excellent. It is proved by the finding that 41 (98%) students had excellent ability. The first-year students’ ability in expressing content was excellent. It is proved by the finding that 42 (100%) students have excellent ability. The first-year students’ ability in pronouncing words is excellent. It is proved by the finding that 42 (100%) students have excellent ability. The first-year students’ ability in using correct grammar is excellent. It is proved by the finding that 41 (98%) students have excellent ability. The first-year students’ ability in using appropriate vocabulary is excellent. It is proved by the finding that 42 (100%) students have excellent ability. The first-year students’ ability in fluency is excellent. It is proved by the finding that 41 (98%) students have excellent ability. Referring to the result of this research, the researcher concludes that the first-year students’ conversation ability in expressing and responding congratulation at Senior High School 2 Harau Boarding School Lima Kota Regency is excellent. So the researcher suggests to the teachers to keep on improving students’ conversation ability in expressing and responding to congratulation and the researcher suggests to the students maintain their ability.
