Abstract

The goal of this research is to identify different types of satire found in Gabriel iglesias stand up comedy. The author also tries to explain the purpose of the satire. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative method to describe the types and purpose of satires, which means collecting the data, then observing and analyzing the data and drawing a conclusion. The theory of satire used in this study is based on Abrams in Holman (1992). The data comes from Youtube video with title Fluffy Special Full show on Viral Today Youtube channel. The data, on the other hand, is the utterances from Gabriel Iglesias in the Stand up comedy. The types of satire that are found in the Gabriel iglesias Stand up comedy are horatian satire, juvenalian satire, burlesque satire and irony. The results of this study showed that there are 2 irony, 10 burlesque satire, 11 juvenalian satire and 27 horatian satire, which are the most dominant used. Each satire’s purpose is interpreted within the existing context. Keywords : Satire, Purpose, Stand up comedy
