Abstract

In this research, the writer analyzes kind of simile in fairy tale by Peter Christen Asbjornsen and Jorgen Moe.the writer also explained about the meaning of simile. the goal of this research is to determine the type of simile and its meaning. The writer analyzes a type of simile as a focus study in Fairy Tale by Peter Christen Asbjornsen and Jorgen Moe in this study. The author also uses a qualitative method to identify this research, as well as several data collection techniques, such as reading a fairy tale as the first step, identifying words to simile as the second step, classifying each simile based on zhang theory, and then analyzing the data using Fromilhague theory as the final step. The result of this study showed there are 3 Open simile and 47 Close simile.In additional, the writer may conclude that close simile was the most frequently used in this fairy tale. The use of similes in fairy tales is to make the story of the fairy tale more interesting and more enjoyable, then it can develope the critical thinking of the reader because similes discuss comparisons, especially in open similes which make the reader have to think and imagine what is happening in the story.
