Abstract

This research aims to describe the types of expressions of anger and explain how the comments express anger in YouTube comments discussing the Jailyn Candelario case. Anger expression is one form of emotion that often appears in social interactions. Expressions of anger on social media are also becoming more prevalent along with the increasing use of digital platforms to communicate. In this research, the writer analyzes the expression of anger through the words of netizens on YouTube comments that discuss the case of baby Jailyn Candelario. The method used is qualitative with observation techniques, this research observes the activities and interactions of netizens in YouTube comments over two months. The data that has been collected is presented in the form of descriptive paragraphs. This research uses Parrott (2001), Leech (1969), DeVito (2016), and Yanti (2014, 2018) theories. The research results show that there are several types of anger and different levels of anger. Of the 56 data found, the writer found 4 data of irritation, 10 data of exasperation, 29 data of rage, and 13 data of disgust. In addition, the writer also found three ways used by commenters to express their anger, namely by using vocabulary of as much as 29 data, using non-verbal communication of as much as 13 data, and also using figurative language in the form of metaphor as much as 11 data and hyperbole as much as 3 data. Then, the writers found types of anger in terms of rage and using vocabulary that are mostly commonly found in the comments. There are various vocabularies used by the commenters to express their anger, especially in English.
