Abstract
This study analyzes the types and strategies of speech acts used by the characters in Disney Disenchanted, using Searle's (1979) theoretical framework of speech acts. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the speech acts found in the movie dialogue, as well as how these speech acts contribute to the interaction between characters. This research uses a qualitative method, with data collected through observation of dialogs in the movie. From the analysis, 89 speech acts were found, divided into five main categories: representative, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. The findings show that representative speech acts are the most frequently used, with 38 examples, followed by directive (22), expressive (19), commissive (9), and declarative (4). In addition, the researcher found (24) direct speech act strategies and (12) indirect strategies. After watching the movie, the writer found that the use of representative speech acts and direct strategies dominated the conversations in the movie Disenchanted, reflecting the important role of these types of speech acts in the narrative structure of the movie. The results of this study contribute to the field of pragmatics and discourse analysis, by providing insight into the application of speech act theory in a cinematic context.
