Abstract

The purpose of this reserch was to analyze students‟ ability in mastering adjective complement by using noun clause and phrase at English Department of Bung Hatta University. The design of this research was descriptive research. The population of this research was the third year students‟ at English Department of Bung Hatta University. The total sample member were 24 students. They were chosen by total sampling technique. The data were collected through writing sentence test and multiple choice part. To make the test reliable, the writer used inter-rater method. It means that there were two scorers to check the students‟ test. The correlation coefficient was 0.89. it means that the test was reliable. The result of this research of this reserch showed that the students in general had low ability. It was proved by the fact that 16 students from 24 students (66,66%) had low ability. In details, it was proved by the fact that 1 student (4,17%) had very good ability, 4 students (16,67%) had good ability, 3 students (12,5%) had moderate ability, and 16 students (66,66%) had low ability. Based finding of this study, simple conclusion could be drawn that the students had low ability. It is suggested that the students should improve their ability in mastering adjective complement by using noun clause and phrase. Besides, the lecturers are suggested to minimaze the students‟ problem by giving more explanation and exercises to mastering adjective complement by using noun clause and phrase.
