Abstract
The writer analyzes about speech act directive and politeness strategiesin Frozen movie by Jennifer Lee and Chris Bruck. The researcher used pragmatics approach which is usequalitative method.There are five types of speech act directiveby Searle (1976). They are: (1) speech act of requesting,(2) speech act of commanding, (3) speech act of suggesting, (4) speech act of advising, (5) speech act of inviting. Moreover, the researchis also analyzed using concepts of politenessstrategy stated Brown and Levinson (1987). The result shows there are a number of speech acts of directive used by the character such as requesting, inviting, advising, and commanding. From the findings, the most dominant speech act of directive in this movie is speech act of requesting and commanding. From all forms of speech act of directive, speech act of commanding is the highest frequency to be used among others. In the politeness strategy, the result shows some numbers of politeness strategy used by the character such as bald on record, positive politeness, and negative politeness. From all forms of politeness strategy, bald on record is the highest frequency to be used among others. Keyword: Types of Speech act of directive, movie, politeness strategy
