Abstract

The study aims to analyze code mixing in Boy Williams youtube channel Nebengboy S2. Code mixing in which people, then, are usually required to select a particular code whenever they choose to speak, and they may also decide to switch from one code to another or to mix codes even within sometimes very short utterances and thereby create a new code in a process known as code-switching called code-mixing (Wardhaugh 2006). The writer used some theories stated by Muysken (2000) and Hoffman (1991). The method used was qualitative descriptive method stated by Cresswell (1994). Data of this study were all of words and sentences that consist of code mixing in terms of the dialogue uttered by the participants in the youtube channel. Based on the data analysis, the result of the study shows that 75 data, from all of the three types are found, 37 data are classified as insertion, 28 data are alternation, and 10 data are categorized as congruent lexicalization. For the result of function of code mixing, the most dominant raeason underlying the use of code mixing was expressing group identity 43 data, talking about particular topic 27 data, and 5 data for repetition used for clarification. In conclusion, the use of code mixing seems automatically break the rules of English and Bahasa Indonesia in terms of grammatical errors, the forms of words created.
